Four Reasons Why the Midterms Were Good for Cannabis

December 17, 2022

All of the votes have been counted, and the 2022 midterm results are in. With everything accounted for, even a last minute party defection in the Senate, we can now take a look at the results and see what they mean for cannabis reform.

Overall, the election was very positive for cannabis reform advocates.  Putting on my teacher hat, I’d give the midterms a B to B+, with four outcomes / actions specifically standing out.

  1. Positive State and Local Results
  2. U.S. Senate – gains for cannabis reform supporters
  3. U.S. House – the House gets younger, and is closely divided, leading to potential compromise
  4. White House moves forward on cannabis reform

In this issue of Verde’s State of the Plant, we discuss the results of the midterm and how they affect the prospects for cannabis reform.
